The 14th and final kingdom of the adventure

The Moon Kingdom closes out the list of kingdoms visited in the main mode: it is the fourteenth kingdom and the end of the chase after Bowser across the world of Odyssey.

Just before it, the Bowser's Kingdom lines up concentric walls, a garden, a tea house and poison moats.

• You reach it right after Bowser's Kingdom, once the Odyssey is able to reach the Moon.
• The setting drops the bright colours of the previous kingdoms for a grey, crater-pocked lunar surface, with planet Earth visible in the black sky.
• It is a kingdom of resolution, entirely geared towards the final confrontation rather than towards the long, laid-back exploration of the other kingdoms.

Lunar gravity that changes everything

The great peculiarity of the Moon Kingdom is its greatly reduced gravity on the surface. There, Mario jumps far higher and farther than anywhere else in the game.

• Out in the open, every leap becomes enormous: jumps hang in the air for a long time before coming down, which completely transforms the way you move around.
• The lunar underground, by contrast, hides galleries of molten lava where gravity goes back to normal and the atmosphere turns scorching.
• This contrast between a weightless surface and infernal depths gives the kingdom an identity unlike any other in Odyssey.

The Moon Caverns and Madame Broode

Before reaching the wedding hall, Mario descends into the Underground Moon Caverns (Underground Moon Caverns), a volcanic maze guarded by an old acquaintance.

• There he runs into Madame Broode, the leader of the rabbits organising the wedding, already fought much earlier in the adventure.
• She fights alongside her golden Chain Chomp, a giant Chain Chomp she swings like a flail at the end of its leash.
• To beat her, you have to capture the Chain Chomp with Cappy and fling it back at her: a mandatory boss on the way to the hall.

The Wedding Hall and the forced marriage

The heart of the kingdom is Honeylune Ridge (in French Cratère Lune de miel), presented as a new frontier of lunar life. This is where the Wedding Hall was built, the setting for the ceremony.

• Bowser has arranged everything there to forcibly marry Princess Peach: dress, bouquet and guests included.
• Mario has to interrupt the ceremony by forcing his way into the hall before it is too late.
• The place serves as the stage for the final battle, the dramatic peak of the whole main story.

The final battle and the gateway to the post-game

The duel against Bowser takes place in an arena carved out beneath the hall. It is the showdown that closes the main story of Super Mario Odyssey.

• Once Bowser is beaten, Mario captures the Koopa king himself to escape a collapsing cavern, in a sequence that has stayed memorable.
• Princess Peach freed, ends up turning down Bowser and Mario alike, on a humorous note.
• Above all, this victory unlocks the Mushroom Kingdom (Mushroom Kingdom), the game's true post-story content and a nod to Super Mario 64.
