Beneath the umbrella's canopy, a little boy still remembers. Handed to Peach by Toadsworth, Perry — Kassar in Japan — serves as her weapon, her shield, her monster-gobbler and her boat throughout Super Princess Peach. This portrait follows the dreams that gradually reveal his human past and his abduction by a sorcerer, a mystery the game leaves wide open: no sequel has ever answered it.
When Peach goes to war, she arms herself with neither a sword nor a hammer — but with a talking blue umbrella. Perry, that's his name, is weapon, shield, boat and confidant all at once: the enchanted Swiss Army knife of the princess's first great solo adventure.
The heroine's inseparable companion in Super Princess Peach, this umbrella nevertheless hides a heartbreaking secret: beneath its canopy lingers the memory of a little boy who was transformed. A portrait of the most endearing accessory in the Mario universe.

The companion of Peach's first adventure
Perry makes his entrance in Super Princess Peach (Nintendo DS, 2006 in Europe), the episode that finally flips the roles: with Bowser having kidnapped Mario, Luigi and the Toads, it is Peach who sets off to the rescue, heading for Vibe Island.
Before she leaves, the faithful butler Toadsworth hands the princess a very special umbrella dug up for the occasion. Surprise: the object talks, thinks — and turns out to be a far punchier adventure partner than any mere rain accessory. In Japan, he answers to the name Kassar.

A weapon, a shield, a boat
Perry is the all-purpose tool every platforming hero dreams of. In Peach's hands, the umbrella becomes, in turn:
- A melee weapon: he sweeps enemies aside and knocks them out with a backhand swing of fabric.
- A monster-gobbler: he swallows certain foes to convert their energy.
- A shield unfurled against projectiles and falling spikes.
- A boat or a floating basket: turned upside down, he carries the princess across water and through the air.
Add the heroine's famous emotion powers — whirling joy, blazing rage, sorrow that waters, calm that heals — and the Peach-Perry duo turns out to be one of the most complete ever seen in a Nintendo platformer.
Perry's secret: a little boy transformed
As the adventure unfolds, strange dreams come to haunt the umbrella's nights. These memory-dreams, doled out between worlds, gradually piece together a shattering past: Perry has not always been an object. He was once a little boy, raised tenderly by an old man, before being abducted by a sinister sorcerer — and turned, no one knows how, into an umbrella.
These fragments of memory lend the game an unexpected melancholy: behind the candy-bright levels of Vibe Island hides the story of a child imprisoned in his own canopy, rediscovering his identity one scrap at a time.
A mystery never solved
The most frustrating — and most fascinating — part is the ending: Super Princess Peach closes without lifting the veil. Who was the sorcerer? Can the spell be broken? Will Perry ever regain human form? The game ends on these open questions, and no sequel has ever come along to answer them.
With no official epilogue, the umbrella keeps forever its status as an unresolved enigma: for years fans have been building theories and imaginary sequels, turning this side character into one of the most moving cold cases in the Mario universe.
The most endearing accessory in the saga
Perry has never returned to the spotlight since 2006 — the princess has since explored other stages, theatrical transformations included. But the memory of him stays vivid: a chatty companion with a tragic fate, an inventive set of powers, and that rare chemistry between a heroine and her gear.
In the great wardrobe of the saga's iconic items — caps, feathers and mushrooms — Perry holds a unique place: the only accessory whose heart and history we know. An umbrella, yes — but with a soul underneath.
