A child of Bonneton, in the Cap Kingdom

Tiara comes from Bonneton, the misty capital of the Cap Kingdom, home to an entire people of flying hat creatures. True to her name, she looks like a living tiara: a white, graceful silhouette with big, peaceful eyes, the complete opposite of her brother's bouncing energy.

The duo she forms with Cappy is one of the most touching in the series: a protective big brother, a dreamy little sister, and a disaster that tears them apart in the game's very first minute.

Kidnapped for a forced wedding

Bowser's plan is cynical through and through: for his forced wedding with Peach, the Koopa King scours the kingdoms to gather the finest trappings — dress, cake, bouquet. And to crown the bride, he needs an exceptional tiara: it will be Tiara, torn away from her own during his devastating raid on Bonneton.

The chilling detail is that Tiara isn't an object: she's a conscious captive, forced to sit enthroned on Peach's head while the tyrant runs through his preparations. Two prisoners for a single wedding — and two rescuers racing after them.

The real reason behind the Mario-Cappy duo

Odyssey's founding scene plays out in the sky: thrown from Bowser's airship, Mario crashes down in the Cap Kingdom, where he meets a Cappy sick with worry. The deal is simple and sincere: Cappy lends Mario his capture powers , and in exchange the expedition will do everything it can to free Tiara.

  • Mario wants to save Peach; Cappy wants to save his sister: their quests mirror each other perfectly.

On Peach's head, all the way to the Moon

Throughout the adventure, Tiara travels against her will from one stop of the wedding procession to the next, perched on the princess's hair. The two captives end up forming a genuine cellmates' bond: Peach reassures her, Tiara holds on, and their stolen exchanges punctuate every one of Bowser's appearances.

The finale plays out in the Moon Kingdom, in the chapel where the Koopa King means to celebrate his lunar wedding. The ceremony falls apart, the hat siblings are finally reunited, and Tiara can drop her role as a tiara and go back to being what she is: a free child of Bonneton.

Afterwards: a world tour with Peach

Tiara's loveliest surprise comes after the credits: marked by her forced journey, she doesn't go home to shut herself away in Bonneton. She turns up travelling from kingdom to kingdom with Peach, this time by choice — the two former hostages roam the world as tourists, and Mario can run into them in every land in the game.

This closing wink transforms the character beautifully: the terrified little sister has become an explorer and the friendship born in captivity outlives the end of the adventure. The perfect revenge on a wedding that never took place.
